This show is like an audition. Have you had bad auditions?
"I have had awful auditions. One day you can be brilliant; the next day you can tank. You are not as good as you think and not as bad as you think. It is all about the work. It is what it is. I can be brilliant in my living room or my car and go into my audition and forget everything I ever knew."

When did you know you wanted to act?
"As a real little kid, I was a little bit shy in junior high, a little quieter. And then in high school, I got the guts to do it, and I had a great mentor. ... I went to college, and I was so afraid to say my major would be theater. You're asking for a life of uncertainty and rejection, and that sort of scared me. I was taking theater classes, and I had to declare my major. I remember saying it out loud, 'I am a theater major.' I also double-majored. It's good to not have a safety plan; if you have a backup plan, then it gets easy, and you get comfortable -you are not going to do it. So jump off the cliff! I did wait a lot of tables. I did cocktail waitress, but I was proud to say when I moved to L.A., I never had to put anything on tax returns that was not (as) an actor."
